Reena, now in loving, forever home... Toronto German Shepherd Dog Rescue was officially created in January 2001, when two ladies, who were individually rescuing German Shepherd Dogs for years, joined forces. In September 2003 we became an incorporated charity. In the spring of 2004 we moved onto 20 acres property in the Trent Hill Township. German Shepherds we work with come from homes that can no longer keep them. We also get difficult to adopt dogs out of shelters so they don't have to die. Many shelters do not understand German Shepherds and German Shepherd usually deteriorate in the shelter environment. Numerous caring shelters recognize that unfortunate reality and know that some German Shepherd Dogs will not be adoptable from their facilities. They refer the owners to us when they arrive at the shelter to surrender their German Shepherd Dog. Many of our dogs arrive with social, behavioral or health problems. Dogs confined to the basements, bathrooms, or left alone in the backyard had no opportunity to learn how to relate to people, children, or other animals. Many physically abused dogs lost trust in human kind. Many are frightened and confused. Some are frustrated by continuous demands placed on them by the previous owners. Dogs from dysfunctional households are prone to aggressive behaviour. It often takes weeks of work to make them ready for their new "forever" home. However, there is nothing more rewarding than to see the first wag of a tail and a first "smile" after days of efforts, and to see the sparkle in dog's eyes when he discovers the joy of chasing a "kong". Our unique 'training' technique makes it possible for every dog that comes in our care to become a 'happy' dog...
Every dog is different, with a different past. We believe in finding the right home for the right dog. Jerry playing with Annabelle, both rescues in our care WE DO NOT KILL DOGS, unlike SPCA, animal shelters, and other rescues who do, because, in view of so called professionals, the dog is not-adoptable due to his temperament, or the behaviour it is displaying. We do not believe that dog should be paying the ultimate price for behaviour of its breeder or owner or both, and for ignorance and arrogance of involved "professionals". We firmly believe that every German Shepherd Dog (unlike human criminals) given an opportunity and guidance will become a happy and trusted companion to some very special individuals. Our record speaks for itself. In over 20 years we never had a dog that came to us with biting problem, who would bite again after being rehabilitated and adopted out to an appropriate family. We are very proud of this record We adopt our dogs out to homes within Southern Ontario only. Before we adopt a dog out we want the dog to visit with an entire potential family. We want to see the interaction between people, other pets, and a potential new member for that family. We are not looking at the size of the house, backyard or even a size of a bank account. The only thing that matters to us is a size of the heart and its ability to connect with a particular German Shepherd Dog.
Casey having fun in the field with her stick We never allow the dog to go to a new home on a first visit. We don't want anybody to feel pressured to make a quick decision. Sometimes a dog has issues that need resolving, this often calls for second, third or even a forth visit. We want to be as certain as possible that we've got a good match and that everybody will be happy for a long time. We hope that potential families want the same. WE DID NOT KILL A SINGLE DOG FOR ANY REASON, EVER. Additionally, thanks to our intervention and help and our unique 'training' approach, numerous dogs stayed with the original owners after the owners discovered that simple adjustments in the family would make a dog a happy member of the family again, joy to live with and not a danger to the neighbourhood. If we did not catch Jessie, abandoned in the cemetery, she would be, most certainly destroyed, as she was displaying typical signs of a "fear biter". Now, she's a happy girl in a wonderful, very happy with her family. (Details about Jessie are posted on a Happy Tails Page). We are a not for profit organization. We pay vet bills; we pay for food, transportation, and housing out of our own pockets. We need help with raising money. If you would like to help a German Shepherd Dog and are not in a position to adopt or foster one, please consider donating to the rescue or becoming a 'virtual' parent to a special boy or a girl.We are also looking for equipment new or used and professional services at a discounted rate. Because of our limited resources, we can only help so many dogs at any particular time and far too many healthy, young dogs die needlessly. We do need YOUR help to reduce those numbers. We would like to be able to host events aimed to educate the public, dog training classes that would help people to fully enjoy their dogs, and we would like to circulate a newsletter. To achieve our goals we need YOU. If you are interested in making a difference to a German Shepherd Dog please join our group. (0) Be the first to comment |

Barack Obama
"There's new energy to harness, new jobs to be created, new schools to build, and threats to meet, alliances to repair./ The road ahead will be long. Our climb will be steep. We may not get there in one year or even in one term. But, America, I have never been more hopeful than I am tonight that we will get there. I promise you, we as a people will get there./ There will be setbacks and false starts. There are many who won't agree with every decision or policy I make as president. And we know the government can't solve every problem./ But I will always be honest with you about the challenges we face. I will listen to you, especially when we disagree. And, above all, I will ask you to join in the work of remaking this nation, the only way it's been done in America for 221 years block by block, brick by brick, calloused hand by calloused hand."

Blue Wilderness
It's no secret that I LOVE Blue Buffalo products, and the Wilderness line is no exception... even though I'm not a huge fan of high-protein, grain free foods. The picture and description for this entry are for the new salmon formula, and my dogs don't really like fish flavors (and many dogs have difficulty digesting fish protein, leading to digestive upset and a fishy or musky body odor), but the ingredients of this food are absolutely top-notch. If your dogs dig fishy flavors, give the red bag of Blue Wilderness a try. If your dogs, like mine, prefer non-fish based foods, Wilderness also comes in a chicken/turkey formula and a duck formula. Packed full of anitoxidants omega fatty acids, and fantastic nutrition, and yet a proven, flavorful food.
