Copyright June, 2000 - 2007 Reprinted with the author's kind permission What started as an ordinary interest in and liking for German Shepherd Dogs has become an obsession to understand the marvelous character of the working German Shepherd Dog because its versatility and greatness seems to surpass all the rest. My search for understanding has been greatly illuminated by Schutzhund training. Through it and the people I have met in Schutzhund, I have gained access to an ever-widening literature and videos about working dogs, especially German Shepherd Dogs. |

Female, Husky/Sheppard X 4 years old approx 50 lbs Spayed. Tiki was adopted from the SPCA in Parry Sound when she was approx. 7 weeks old, and has been in a caring home ever since. Tiki is a loving dog to her master, energetic, loves to play, run and swim. Tiki has not adjusted well to recent changes in our home. Our 8 month old daughter is becoming curious and mobile, although she has never bitten we fear jealousy may set in. Tiki has a strong guarding instict, and has been known to show aggression with treats and toys. Tiki is a young and beautiful girl in excellent health. We feel there is still a chance for her if placed in a suitable home with no young children. If you require further details or information, please contact Amy @ 905 989-2146.

But Doc, the Dog's Already Dead! How to say no to your vet. By Emily Yoffe Posted on slate.com, Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007 Reprinted with author's permission Recently, my friend A's vigorous 10-year-old laika (a Russian breed whose name means "barker") woke up wheezing. She seemed fine the next morning when he went to work, but that afternoon he got a call from his mother, who had come over to let the dog out, telling him the dog seemed disoriented. He left work, arriving home about an hour later, to discover his pet on the floor of the bedroom, eyes open and fixed, body stiff. He picked the dog up, put her in the car, and drove to the vet. He ran in with the rigid dog over his shoulder and announced, "I think my dog is dead!" Everything stopped in the waiting room as the techs whisked the dog away.
Soon an employee emerged to explain it looked as if the dog had suffered a cardiac arrest. He also had a question: "Do you want us to do CPR?" All eyes turned to A, including those of the woman who had begun weeping in sympathy when A announced his dog had died. He realized he couldn't bring himself to say what he was thinking: "How much are you going to charge me to do CPR on my dead dog?" Instead, he told them to go ahead, and took a seat. Techs came out with periodic reports—neither heart massage nor drug infusion was generating any vital signs. "I wanted to say, 'That's because she's been dead for an hour,' " says A. Finally, they suggested the treatments should stop, and A agreed. They presented him with the bill. It turns out it costs $250 to try to revive a dead dog. |

Nikki Nikki loves her kitty... Nikki used to live in a house with her entire large family. However, parents moved out of country several months ago and Nikki moved to an apartment with just her owner and the kitty, her best friend. Since that move Nikki has been depressed and has become dog aggressive, specially with smaller dogs. An owner talked to her vet and was told that she will be back to her normal loving self as soon as she moves out of very stressful for her apartment environment. On top of that, owner have received a notice at the apartment to either have the dog removed or move herself which she can not afford. Nikki is very healthy, all her shots are up to date and she is spayed. She has been living in the same home with a cat for 4 years now and they are friends. She loves to be around people and she enjoys big families. Nikki needs new home NOW! Please contact her: Nikki |

Spay, Neuter, and CancerReprinted with Dr.Milani's permission from MMilani.com
dr. Myrna Milani Perhaps no aspect of pet ownership in the U.S. elicits as passionately supportive emotions as the subject of spay and neuter. In fact, this orientation is so well established that saying anything that questions the procedure is akin to blasphemy. However, just as women were routinely relieved of their reproductive organs with a "La de da, you'll never miss 'em" attitude until studies exploring the nonreproductive effects of reproductive hormones made human physicians rethink this position, so veterinarians and other animal-care professionals are making tentative moves to rethink wholesale sterilization of companion animals, too. |

"You find yourself refreshed by the presence of cheerful people. Why not make an honest effort to confer that pleasure on others? Half the battle is gained if you never allow yourself to say anything gloomy."

Blue Wilderness
It's no secret that I LOVE Blue Buffalo products, and the Wilderness line is no exception... even though I'm not a huge fan of high-protein, grain free foods. The picture and description for this entry are for the new salmon formula, and my dogs don't really like fish flavors (and many dogs have difficulty digesting fish protein, leading to digestive upset and a fishy or musky body odor), but the ingredients of this food are absolutely top-notch. If your dogs dig fishy flavors, give the red bag of Blue Wilderness a try. If your dogs, like mine, prefer non-fish based foods, Wilderness also comes in a chicken/turkey formula and a duck formula. Packed full of anitoxidants omega fatty acids, and fantastic nutrition, and yet a proven, flavorful food.
