Happy Birthday to dear Sultan! Wishing you many, many happier returns! After almost two years of [actions of] (edited on September 20, 2006 at 9:48am) Don Horvath an agent of OSPCA employed by Niagara Falls Humane Society, thousands of dollars expended on courts and lawyers, Ron and Diane Nielsons are reaching the end of their strength and resolve to keep their 6 years old German Shepherd Dog alive. They need our moral support and help with convincing authorities to allow this once happy and healthy dog come back home and end the nightmare. |

We adopted Casey, a troubled 3 year old female, from Toronto German Shepherd Dog Rescue last November, two weeks after the death of our beloved Jenny, also a GSD. Was adopting Casey a hasty, ill considered move, completed while we were still in shock? Perhaps, but I don't think so. Our first shepherd was Mishi, an adolescent I adopted from the Sault Ste. Marie humane society in the late seventies. She lived with us for twelve years and was our constant companion, reliable friend and warm pillow. Wherever we went, she went - by bush plane, canoe, on foot or by car. She loved our cats, but would chase all others. Squirrels, groundhogs and muskrats were in mortal danger whenever she was near. When Mishi died I thought that it would be impossible for me to ever love another dog the way I had loved her. By then we had one small child and another on the way and foolishly, we did not get another dog until eight years had passed. That was a mistake we swore never to do again. |

Ben, Haliburton lookout Lemme tell you about my best friend. It's a long thread, but it's some dog we've got. The word "good" just doesn't sum up my boy, Ben. Ben, whenever possible, travels with me, despite eternal truck sickness (Tina blames it on my driving, and probably rightly so....LOL). Yesterday, as usual, he accompanied me out on the ice for a day of fishing. Lia wanders too much, and Cy's not too good with recall yet. I usually bring along a tennis ball and frisbee, to keep us warm and entertained between bites. But yesterday was one of those rare days when the action was virtually non-stop, and tending lines meant more perch to feast on this weekend. |

Barack Obama
"There's new energy to harness, new jobs to be created, new schools to build, and threats to meet, alliances to repair./ The road ahead will be long. Our climb will be steep. We may not get there in one year or even in one term. But, America, I have never been more hopeful than I am tonight that we will get there. I promise you, we as a people will get there./ There will be setbacks and false starts. There are many who won't agree with every decision or policy I make as president. And we know the government can't solve every problem./ But I will always be honest with you about the challenges we face. I will listen to you, especially when we disagree. And, above all, I will ask you to join in the work of remaking this nation, the only way it's been done in America for 221 years block by block, brick by brick, calloused hand by calloused hand."

Blue Wilderness
It's no secret that I LOVE Blue Buffalo products, and the Wilderness line is no exception... even though I'm not a huge fan of high-protein, grain free foods. The picture and description for this entry are for the new salmon formula, and my dogs don't really like fish flavors (and many dogs have difficulty digesting fish protein, leading to digestive upset and a fishy or musky body odor), but the ingredients of this food are absolutely top-notch. If your dogs dig fishy flavors, give the red bag of Blue Wilderness a try. If your dogs, like mine, prefer non-fish based foods, Wilderness also comes in a chicken/turkey formula and a duck formula. Packed full of anitoxidants omega fatty acids, and fantastic nutrition, and yet a proven, flavorful food.
