 One of Senior girls...
Step one Ask yourself few basic questions: - Are you sure you want to add a German Shepherd Dog to your family? If you're not sure, please read Is German Shepherd Dog a right dog for you? on our website. It might help.
- Are you willing to open your heart to a German Shepherd Dog no longer wanted by its previous owners, dog with often unknown past, often abused, or neglected, dog that will most likely need time to heal emotionally? Are you a patient person?
- Look at your life ahead of you. Is there still going to be room in your heart for a German Shepherd Dog two, five, ten years from now? Please read How could you? It happens more often than we think...
Step Two
Once you decide to give a second chance to a 'rescue' German Shepherd Dog, please browse through our 'Dogs for Adoption' pages and through various Web Sites on the Internet. |

- We do not have an Adoption Application form to fill. However, we do need to meet in person with your entire family including any family dogs at least once and we do need to see the interaction between the dog & the family.
- You will need to sign an Adoption Agreement.
- We do not adopt to families with children 10 years old and younger.
- You need to live within easy traveling distance to Toronto or Peterborough.
- We never adopt the dog during the first visit, at least one more visit is required.
- All dogs are seen by the veterinarian before they go to their new family. Only Rabies Shots, required by law will be current, others might not be. We do not believe in over-vaccinating the dogs. We leave it up to you and your veterinarian to establish your vaccination schedule.
- We do not require fences, however we do require that the adopted dog is an indoor dog and a full family member.
- Full details are provided in our Adoption Agreement and Adoption Process Page of the website. Please read both carefully.

Blue Buffalo Dog Food
Blue Buffalo is one of the best, if not THE BEST pet food companies out there. They are American made and do not have corn, wheat or soy in their food. They have three different wilderness options to choose from, a whole line of small breed and large breed foods, so your pets have protein options, which is very important. You need to switch protein sources every once in a while. We change every 4 months, some people like every 6. I say do what works for you but do NOT feed the same food for over 6 months. Your pet can develop sensitivities and allergies to an ingredient, so you need to change it up. Check out this to confirm that statement: http://www.addictionfoods.com/resources/RotationFeeding.pdfPeople who complain about their dogs getting sick are probably switching foods too fast. Every dog is different, we have 6 dogs, and some HAVE to switch foods slower than others. I can change some dogs over to a new/different protein source in 2-3 days and other dogs I switch slower over a week or two because they have issues. Science Diet is a terrible food. Anyone to has tried Blue Buffalo and did NOT give their dog a chance to adjust to the food and then returns to SD is just doing their pet a HUGE injustice. Feeding a food like SD that has NO good meat protein source, is full of corn, soy and other non nutritious ingredients is NOT healthy for your pets. I don’t care what your vet says, GET ANOTHER VET! I use a holistic vet and she only recommends foods that do not contain corn, wheat or soy. I will not use a vet that sells SD in their clinic because if they do not know basic nutrition information, how can they be medically competent? Give Blue Buffalo food a really GOOD try and then comment. Have your medium size dog go through a 30 lb bag, or have your small dog go through a 15 lb bag. If they are still having loose stool after 3-4 weeks, or a full bag, then their may be a protein or other ingredient that they have issues with. There is NO MIRACLE FOOD for every dog! They are all different just like we are! If the chicken doesn’t work for your dog, try the lamb or fish. The have a limited ingredient diet now called Blue Basics, give that a try if have issues with the regular food. I hope that this info helps. I love my pets, and I have used other premium brands and I like them as well, but I think that Blue is the best.
