Eva, one of our rescue girls... WE ARE A SMALL VOLUNTEER BASED ORGANIZATION dedicated to saving lives of no longer wanted German Shepherd Dogs. We love the breed and all it has to offer and have respect and understanding of its too often misunderstood nature and behaviour. Please stay a while and visit our pages. Whether you are looking for a companion to add to your family, just looking for information, or need support with taking care of your own German Shepherd Dog, please surf our pages. Afterwards, please let us know what you think. This in turn will help us to become a better Rescue. In our efforts, we rely on dedicated volunteers. We are very, very lucky to have Frieda helping us. She joined as a volunteer several years ago, fell in love with Reena, one of our rescue girl who arrived into our care the very same day and adopted her. Frieda helps with various events, she helps with fundraising, helps with walking and socializing rescue dogs who lack social skills and need that extra individual attention- we could not survive without Frieda's help. |

Reena, now in loving, forever home... Toronto German Shepherd Dog Rescue was officially created in January 2001, when two ladies, who were individually rescuing German Shepherd Dogs for years, joined forces. In September 2003 we became an incorporated charity. In the spring of 2004 we moved onto 20 acres property in the Trent Hill Township. German Shepherds we work with come from homes that can no longer keep them. We also get difficult to adopt dogs out of shelters so they don't have to die. Many shelters do not understand German Shepherds and German Shepherd usually deteriorate in the shelter environment. Numerous caring shelters recognize that unfortunate reality and know that some German Shepherd Dogs will not be adoptable from their facilities. They refer the owners to us when they arrive at the shelter to surrender their German Shepherd Dog. Many of our dogs arrive with social, behavioral or health problems. Dogs confined to the basements, bathrooms, or left alone in the backyard had no opportunity to learn how to relate to people, children, or other animals. Many physically abused dogs lost trust in human kind. Many are frightened and confused. Some are frustrated by continuous demands placed on them by the previous owners. Dogs from dysfunctional households are prone to aggressive behaviour. It often takes weeks of work to make them ready for their new "forever" home. However, there is nothing more rewarding than to see the first wag of a tail and a first "smile" after days of efforts, and to see the sparkle in dog's eyes when he discovers the joy of chasing a "kong". Our unique 'training' technique makes it possible for every dog that comes in our care to become a 'happy' dog... |

It has been my dream for over 20 years to create a place, a Very Special Place where misunderstood, rejected, no longer wanted German Shepherd Dogs get a chance to heal and become happy again. There are many hard working and caring people who work with foster homes and many homeless dogs are given a second chance there... But what happens to German Shepherd Dogs who through inappropriate care or no care at all, become emotionally scarred and require time and a safe place to heal? Very, very few people have necessary experience, facilities and desire to safely foster those dogs, to give them that second chance, chance to reconnect with themselves and become whole and happy again... Those dogs get labeled unadoptable... Unadoptable dogs have no value to shelters and no value to many dog rescues... It is not only difficult to sell those dogs as pets, but they become liability and as result simply misunderstood, mistreated, unhappy German Shepherd Dogs get killed both in shelters & rescues in great numbers... |

Blue Wilderness
It's no secret that I LOVE Blue Buffalo products, and the Wilderness line is no exception... even though I'm not a huge fan of high-protein, grain free foods. The picture and description for this entry are for the new salmon formula, and my dogs don't really like fish flavors (and many dogs have difficulty digesting fish protein, leading to digestive upset and a fishy or musky body odor), but the ingredients of this food are absolutely top-notch. If your dogs dig fishy flavors, give the red bag of Blue Wilderness a try. If your dogs, like mine, prefer non-fish based foods, Wilderness also comes in a chicken/turkey formula and a duck formula. Packed full of anitoxidants omega fatty acids, and fantastic nutrition, and yet a proven, flavorful food.
