There are dogs, puppies, cats and kittens killed every week in this country’s animal shelters. These deaths are a sad and inexcusable fact.
To listen to the media reports, the number of animals in shelters is all the fault of dogs/cats being bred. If you breed, then more will be killed in shelters. If you buy a dog or cat then you are supporting breeders and one more will die in a shelter. The animal rights movement promotes that breeders are evil. To allow your dog/cat to reproduce makes you lower than dirt. Heaven forbid if you actually planned the event. Wanting to purchase a pet with a certain look, behavior and wanting it for a specific purpose makes you a bad person. According to the media and animal rights activists, over population (breeding) is the reason for all of the shelter deaths.
A large portion of the general public has been lead to believe these theories. These are only theories because reliable, credible statistics have not and are not being kept at an overwhelming majority of shelters as to why animals are being surrendered. There are some sections of this country that are importing dogs from foreign countries because of a lack of local dogs available for adoption. Large numbers in shelters seem to be regional not necessarily national.(4) Add your comment |

Copyright June, 2000 - 2007 Reprinted with the author's kind permission What started as an ordinary interest in and liking for German Shepherd Dogs has become an obsession to understand the marvelous character of the working German Shepherd Dog because its versatility and greatness seems to surpass all the rest. My search for understanding has been greatly illuminated by Schutzhund training. Through it and the people I have met in Schutzhund, I have gained access to an ever-widening literature and videos about working dogs, especially German Shepherd Dogs. (5) Add your comment |

PRESS RELEASE One of the most important vaccine research studies in veterinary medicine is underway at the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine in Madison. Dr. Ronald Schultz, a leading authority on veterinary vaccines and Chair of the Department of Pathobiological Sciences, has begun concurrent 5 and 7 year challenge studies to determine the long-term duration of immunity of the canine rabies vaccine, with the goal of extending the state-mandated interval for boosters. These will be the first long-term challenge studies on the canine rabies vaccine to be published in the United States.
Dr. Schultz comments that: "We are all very excited to start this study that will hopefully demonstrate that rabies vaccines can provide a minimum of 7 years of immunity." (0) Be the first to comment |

Female, Husky/Sheppard X 4 years old approx 50 lbs Spayed. Tiki was adopted from the SPCA in Parry Sound when she was approx. 7 weeks old, and has been in a caring home ever since. Tiki is a loving dog to her master, energetic, loves to play, run and swim. Tiki has not adjusted well to recent changes in our home. Our 8 month old daughter is becoming curious and mobile, although she has never bitten we fear jealousy may set in. Tiki has a strong guarding instict, and has been known to show aggression with treats and toys. Tiki is a young and beautiful girl in excellent health. We feel there is still a chance for her if placed in a suitable home with no young children. If you require further details or information, please contact Amy @ 905 989-2146.

Roxy has always been a wee bit puzzled about where our 28lb cat Wiley fits into the general scheme of things....You see I decided that just once in my life I would like to have a kitten...( we have always adopted older cats from the shelters!)
Anyway my beloved Sassy treated Wiley as a puppy ...despite him embarrassing her with his cat like behavior...by the time Roxy came along, the roles had changed....Wiley was much older and was OK with another GSD around just as long as she toed the line....

Barack Obama
"There's new energy to harness, new jobs to be created, new schools to build, and threats to meet, alliances to repair./ The road ahead will be long. Our climb will be steep. We may not get there in one year or even in one term. But, America, I have never been more hopeful than I am tonight that we will get there. I promise you, we as a people will get there./ There will be setbacks and false starts. There are many who won't agree with every decision or policy I make as president. And we know the government can't solve every problem./ But I will always be honest with you about the challenges we face. I will listen to you, especially when we disagree. And, above all, I will ask you to join in the work of remaking this nation, the only way it's been done in America for 221 years block by block, brick by brick, calloused hand by calloused hand."

Blue Wilderness
It's no secret that I LOVE Blue Buffalo products, and the Wilderness line is no exception... even though I'm not a huge fan of high-protein, grain free foods. The picture and description for this entry are for the new salmon formula, and my dogs don't really like fish flavors (and many dogs have difficulty digesting fish protein, leading to digestive upset and a fishy or musky body odor), but the ingredients of this food are absolutely top-notch. If your dogs dig fishy flavors, give the red bag of Blue Wilderness a try. If your dogs, like mine, prefer non-fish based foods, Wilderness also comes in a chicken/turkey formula and a duck formula. Packed full of anitoxidants omega fatty acids, and fantastic nutrition, and yet a proven, flavorful food.
