It has been my dream for over 20 years to create a place, a Very Special Place where misunderstood, rejected, no longer wanted German Shepherd Dogs get a chance to heal and become happy again. There are many hard working and caring people who work with foster homes and many homeless dogs are given a second chance there... But what happens to German Shepherd Dogs who through inappropriate care or no care at all, become emotionally scarred and require time and a safe place to heal? Very, very few people have necessary experience, facilities and desire to safely foster those dogs, to give them that second chance, chance to reconnect with themselves and become whole and happy again... Those dogs get labeled unadoptable... Unadoptable dogs have no value to shelters and no value to many dog rescues... It is not only difficult to sell those dogs as pets, but they become liability and as result simply misunderstood, mistreated, unhappy German Shepherd Dogs get killed both in shelters & rescues in great numbers... |

Copyright June, 2000 - 2007 Reprinted with the author's kind permission What started as an ordinary interest in and liking for German Shepherd Dogs has become an obsession to understand the marvelous character of the working German Shepherd Dog because its versatility and greatness seems to surpass all the rest. My search for understanding has been greatly illuminated by Schutzhund training. Through it and the people I have met in Schutzhund, I have gained access to an ever-widening literature and videos about working dogs, especially German Shepherd Dogs. |

Ethan loves to run... Ethan is a very goofy youngster... Ethan is 3 years old, however he still looks and acts like a pup. His legs still appear too big for him... Ethan is confident around people, friendly most of the time, always expecting treats... Ethan loves to run and he needs a human partner who would provide him with an opportunity to run daily. Ethan needs a patient, kind home where he can mature into a wonderful, loving and well mannered boy... There are many more Ethan's photos in our Photo Gallery, please take a look... Orijen (4.26)
The food has great ingredients and is a good, rich food. However, the options they have make this food less than a 5-star food for me. The kibble size was too large for my chihuahua to eat easily. If you don't have a small dog, then this is a 5 start food. But, if you have a small dog, the kibble sizes may be too large for it to easily crunch and they don't yet have a small bites blend for small dogs. I'm sure it's a great food ingredient-wise, but anyone with a small dog should first get a small bag to see if the dog can easily eat it. The only option we had was to feed our chihuahua puppy food, but the ratios of protein / fruits & vegetables was a little different and probably best suited for growing puppies.
Not that it was a deal-breaker, but Orijen doesn't make dog biscuits either, and I would have liked to have kept my dog on the same dog food and dog treats.
I ended up going with Evo Small Bites. It's a good, rich food too. I was aware that some dogs had upset stomachs, which is why I first chose Orijen, but after slowly transitioning our chihuahua onto Evo, we've had good stool and no vomiting.

Taste of the Wild (4.03)
Seems to be a descent food, seems to be heavy on veggies. Also, it seems to have a lot of different kinds of meat in it, and if your dog develops a protein allergy, that will make it very difficult to find a protein the dog has not been exposed to.

Innova EVO Dog Food (4.00)
I just switched my 12 year old Collie from Medical to Evo because I thought I would give her the best. She's been on Evo now for approximately 3 weeks (weaned her off the Medical slowly) and farts all the time. Not only that, but I got concerned because I noticed she hasn't been pooping. Then today there was a hard poop on the living room floor. After checking her out "down there" I discovered another hard poop stuck to her fur and she was a mess down there! I'm going to look for something else.

Nature's Variety (3.78)
We love this. My 9 year old lab was having anal gland problems and by swithing him to the chicken and Turkey frozen Raw mixed with dry, cleared up the stink and gland issues, firmed up his feces. He eats his whole dinner now, where as before he would ho hum about it. Rating a 4 instead of 5 due to price.

Merrick (3.77)
Orijen is the best but my puppy seems to go crazy over this too and the ingredients are very good
