It has been my dream for over 20 years to create a place, a Very Special Place where misunderstood, rejected, no longer wanted German Shepherd Dogs get a chance to heal and become happy again. There are many hard working and caring people who work with foster homes and many homeless dogs are given a second chance there... But what happens to German Shepherd Dogs who through inappropriate care or no care at all, become emotionally scarred and require time and a safe place to heal? Very, very few people have necessary experience, facilities and desire to safely foster those dogs, to give them that second chance, chance to reconnect with themselves and become whole and happy again... Those dogs get labeled unadoptable... Unadoptable dogs have no value to shelters and no value to many dog rescues... It is not only difficult to sell those dogs as pets, but they become liability and as result simply misunderstood, mistreated, unhappy German Shepherd Dogs get killed both in shelters & rescues in great numbers... |

Copyright June, 2000 - 2007 Reprinted with the author's kind permission What started as an ordinary interest in and liking for German Shepherd Dogs has become an obsession to understand the marvelous character of the working German Shepherd Dog because its versatility and greatness seems to surpass all the rest. My search for understanding has been greatly illuminated by Schutzhund training. Through it and the people I have met in Schutzhund, I have gained access to an ever-widening literature and videos about working dogs, especially German Shepherd Dogs. |

Orijen
My English bulldog loves the 6-fish formula, and it basically solved his digestive issues overnight. I'd previously fed him Innova, California Natural (Herring and Sweet Potato) as well as the mixed-protein Orijen Adult and had to consistently supplement all food with pumpkin to provide fiber. Within a day of switching him over to the fish formula, his stomach challenges resolved themselves. I've never seen him be so interested in his food or eat it so quickly! His allergies also improved since going onto it, and the foot licking has finally (after 1 1/2 years) lessened! Now for the problem - because it's a high protein food, the portion size is smaller than my bully wants and he constantly seems hungry. I've actually just started mixing in Acana Pacifica to bulk up the portion size a little bit. This combo seems to take off the hunger edge a little more, and though it's only been a few days, he's doing well even with the mix. If anyone has an allergy prone dog, I'd definitely recommend trying one of these formulas. I have a vet-dermatologist who wanted to put him on a Royal Canin food to try and address the allergies, and thank god that I found this food first before having to resort to anything like that. Pros: Cured a sensitive stomach! Improving allergies. Dog loves it unlike any other dry food. Cons: Hungry dog - Have to be careful on portion size or else the dog is going to put on some pounds.

Taste of the Wild
I must say....I was a skeptic. I have 3 Greyhounds, 2 Whippets and 1 Dachshund. The dogs are very active and do Lure Coursing, except for the weinie dog. So I had to have a good food to keep them in shape, active and healthy. I have tried many, many different foods trying to find one that worked with all my dogs. I had tried California Natural, Canidae, Natural Balance, Blue Wilderness, etc.... One of the dogs would always have a problem with the foods. TOTW was recommended to me. It is grain free and was supose to help with skin issues, and with digestive problems. To my disbelief ALL the dogs are doing wonderful on this food. I have only used the High Prairie Canine Formula so far, but no smelly "wiffs" of air from the dogs and the Dachshunds skin issues are doing beautifully. I would definitely recommend this for multi dog and multi breed homes.

Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance
We adopted a 2-year-old chocolate lab from animal control. He was missing most of the hair on one side of his face, had terrible diarrhea, major shedding, runny eyes, and was just generally gross. But we loved him. I took him to the vet, who put him on a really expensive prescription food with white fish and potato as the main ingredients. It made a huge difference. But I still needed to load him up with pumpkin and antihistamines to get him comfortable. In light of our new "pumpkin budget" (pretty expensive) I asked her if we could try some non-prescription foods to save some money. Someone at Petco recommended Natural Balance white fish and sweet potato. What a difference! First -- cheaper! Next, Moose looks and acts like a completely different dog. His coat is BEAUTIFUL! He practically never sheds, his eyes are clear, his stools are totally healthy, his facial hair grew back and he's just about as handsome as could be! I don't know exactly what it is about this food, but for some reason, for this dog, it was the answer to a lot of problems.
